…I used to live “around the corner” from the original rabbit of Alice Liddel. He would hop from a door, a tiny gate, in a Christ Church courtyard. Charles Dodgson’s study overlooked the lawn, and if you peered from the window as I did when I lived there, in Oxford around the corner from Christ Church Meadow at Magdalen College, and if you happened to view the courtyard lawn when the little gate was ajar, you could almost see the original white rabbit’s shadow fall then disappear like the hand of a clock.
